Jimmy Walker is the first big name to game the new 716 MB Irons from Titleist this week at The Players Championship and we thought it would be nice to put the new (prototype at this stage) weapons side by side against the 714's and compare them.

The 714 MB's will be two years old in November so it reasonable to assume we are looking at the new 716 MB's going by the company's traditional product cycle.  The "716"hosel stamp is a bit of a dead giveaway in fairness.

So what do we have new?  Well for starters Titleist are not ones to mess with a winning formula so don't expect massive differences.  They are traditionalists whose clubs (apart from the groundbreaking 915 driver) are more evolution driven than revolution. And after all we are dealing with the premium ballstriker category where subtlety and refinement are the name of the game.

Having said that the new 716 MB's certainly seem a little rounder than the 714's and the muscle line appears more curved than in the previous incarnation.  These however are just subtle refinements; we must wait to see if loft have been strengthened or shafts changed.

So on first glance it's "more of the same please" in much the same way as another pint of the same beer makes you that little bit happier!
