As a proud Irishman, it never ceases to amaze how many of the world's top golfers our little Island has produced. Padraig, Rors, Darren, Gmac, Paul, Christy, JB etc...

Now as it turns out we also have the world's number one amateur lady too.  She is Leona Maguire, winner of three of last four starts in top am events.

Maguire is set to make a big splash in the pro game, but that won't come in time for the Rio Olympics writes Brian Keogh at the Irishgolfdesk.  Unlike other sports that have an amateur criteria for the Olympics, qualification for the golf event is done by money earned on main tours only.

Surely that's not fair?
