The commentary was straight out of North Korea as Tiger Woods chipped in for birdie on the 17th hole in the opening round of THE PLAYERS Championship.

In fairness Woods had battled gamely all day and faced a tough pitch after his 119-yard tee shot landed in the collar of the rough at the front of the green, 14 feet from the cup ..

But he clearly yipped rather than chipped the shot with the skulled ball travelling at a rate of knots as it disappeared.

Woods finished on +1 in a tie for 77th.
