It's one of my favourite events of the year this week at Paris National where Graeme McDowell is going for a three-peat.  The hard pan tough inland linksy layout kicks off the run in to the Open Championship at Saint Andrews.

Francesco Molinari 14/1

I am a little bit worried that Fran is spreading himself  a little bit too thin with his schedule on both sides of the Atlantic but if jetlag is not a problem after his T25 at The Travelers, he has the game to contend again in Paris.  One glance at the Italian’s shotlink stats and you will see he pummels the greens every week and the only thing that stops him winning is not holing more putts. Led the field in GIR at the US Open after a great T3 at Memorial and has to be knocking on the door of a win.  Close twice in Paris in 2010 (T2 playoff loss to Jimenez) and 2012 (solo 2nd when Siem won).

Thongchai Jaidee 30/1

The opposite for me to Francesco!  Thongchai is a player who almost wings it from tee to green on any given week but man is he a great putter.  Missed a couple of cuts lately in Sweden and at the US Open but was T11 in Munich last week and has had a great early Summer so far with a T2 at Wentworth and T10 in Ireland.  Missed a putt on the last in 2014 that would have forced a playoff with GMac and if it’s similarly tough this year, expect the Thai to be biting at the heels of the leaders.

Peter Hanson 35/1

Great to see Peter Hanson back to something like his best on the European Tour.  And he’s improving every week.  A T13 at the Nordea was followed by a T7 in Munich last week where Peter got it to 8 under for just the par-4’s which says good ball striking and birdie conversion form.  On the flip side he hasn’t played here for the two years and to be frank struggled in 2012 and 2011 but did have some good finishes at Paris National in 2010 and 2009.  Worth follo

Soren Kjeldsen 30/1

If you asked me at the start of the year to name a tournament for Soren to do well in it would have been the Open de France and not the Irish Open.  Three top 20’s in a row (T18/2014, T8/2013, T9/2012) here and playing better now than leading up to any of those.  Winner at RCD, nearly repeated at Nordea, solid in Wentworth and Spain before that; Soren hits lots of greens and I like him this week.

Marc Warren 28/1

Nothing like a linksy layout to spook three quarters of the field and look like a pot of honey to Marc Warren.  Very solid top 30 finishes in his last three Paris starts and if he can hit the greens this week the Scot is putting well enough to contend.  T27 last time out around Chambers Bay was no mean feat and he’ll be itching to get going this week. Leads the Tour in putts per greens in regulation.

Long Odds Glory

Mike Hoey at 80/1 looks a good each way bet.  T20 in Austria and threw in a sweet 65 in Munich last week to finish T7.  Had his best putting week this year too.  The Ho-Dog is afraid of nobody so watch this space!

I recall Victor Riu at 125/1 had a great tournament last year and knows the course very well.  Doesn’t get many main Tour starts but was T29 in Germany last week.
