Shane Lowry may be the hottest property in golf right now but even after winning the WGC Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio, he does not qualify for the season ending FedEx Cup Playoffs on the PGA Tour.

Due to a wrinkle in the bye laws the 550 FedExCup points earned by Lowry do not count toward his PGA Tour membership total because they came in a WGC event.  The bye law is enacted to protect the existing PGA Tour membership.

Shane still has 222 non-member FedExCup points and can add onto his official total at this week's PGA Championship but should he not earn enough FedEx points there, faces an August without big tournament golf as the European Tour stage low key events in Denmark and the Czech Republic.

It is possible then we will Shane tee it up next in September at the KLM Open in Holland and/or the European Open in Germany.

Daft rule by an inept and insular PGA Tour.
