We didn't know much coming in about the European Tour's Golf Sixes in St Albans, but it has proved a big success over the weekend.

"Twenty 20 cricket on steroids" is how I heard it best described as Thorbjorn Olesen and Lucas Bjerregaard took home the six hole match based trophy for Denmark.

Just watch this for a driving exhibition.

But down to business and annoying bit out the way swiftly first....that had to be "celebrity" involvement. Maybe it's just me.

Brilliant bit was the shot clock. 40 seconds to hit during the group matches. 30 seconds during the knockout matches.

And even better was that the clock beat Paul Peterson, playing for the USA.  Failing to hit before the clock ran out actually cost USA a quarter-final place.

For an inaugural tournament it exceeded everyones expectations. Denmark beat Australia  and Scotland came third beating Italy in a nearest the pin shootout.

Of course Golf Sixes had its critics on social media at the weekend.  This rebuttle from Nick Dougherty of Sky Sports to one nay sayers is well worth a read.
